Medicare Part C (aka Medicare Advantage)
Medicare Advantage, formerly known as Medicare+Choice, is an alternative to Original Medicare that was added to the Medicare program in 1997. You can either choose Original Medicare (Parts A and B) or Part C. You cannot have both.
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies that have contracted with the federal government.
These plans will cover everything that Original Medicare does but may also offer additional services. In 2015,16.8 millions Americans chose Medicare Advantage plans to make sure they had better coverage for the basic services they needed. Medicare Advantage plans come at a cost to beneficiaries who usually pay higher monthly premiums than they would on Original Medicare.
